Maps and Mapping the World

Understanding Maps of Our World

This book charts the history of maps of the world and the known universe. It shows that, in general, the higher the mapmaker’s position, the more accurate the map. It also demonstrates that maps have always had to accurately represent areas that cannot be seen, such as the ocean floor.
