Songs That Honor America
Songs That Honor America is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts, addressing Literacy.RI.1.9 and Literacy.L.1.5. Large color photographs of patriotic images such the American flag, the national anthem being sung at various events, and American soldiers saluting—along with narrative nonfiction text—are used to teach young readers about the history behind famous national songs and their significance in our reality. This book should be paired with “The Songs We Sing: Honoring Our Country" (9781448888214) from the Rosen Common Core Readers Program to provide the alternative point of view on the same topic.
