Analyzing the Issues (Fall 2018 Bundle)
Addressing controversial issues in contemporary society, this series explores each topic in a pro/con format by contrasting articles that reflect opposing opinions from experts, the government, the courts, advocacy organizations, the media, and ordinary people. These articles are carefully researched and collected from a wide variety of reliable sources in order to give the reader a full perspective on the topic at hand, encourage them to think critically, and allow them to analyze topics that affect their lives and society as a whole.• Presents both evidentiary and rhetoric-based arguments around social issues, demonstrating by example how to construct well-supported claims, a central part of the C3 Framework for Social Studies at the 7th to 12th grade levels• Current, in-depth articles help students understand pressing public issues on religious, political, socioeconomic, and cultural levels• Critical thinking questions after each article prompt readers to analyze the main points and reflect on their own opinions after taking in competing views
